How-to Create a Hidden Dock Theme with BlackBerry Theme Composer?

As I’ve said previously, I’m going to be giving my “Aerith (Aeris) Gainsborough” BlackBerry OS theme a complete overhaul come version 2.x, and I wouldn’t mind offering one of these fancy “next gen” Home Screens…

Of course being new to theme development and all, I had no idea on how to create a “next gen” theme, so I went searching on the ‘net” and found this:,create-a-hidden-dock-in-blackberry-composer.html

It’s not quite what I was looking for as I have something else in mind for version 2.x of my Aerith (Aeris) Gainsborough theme, but it’s a start and I’m sure many of you will find this handy…

Aerith (Aeris) Gainsborough Theme Updated (version 1.1)

Hey all!

Well, Telstra FIANLLY made the BlackBerry OS available to their customers and after a bit of a rocky start (the first attempt “bricked” my device!), I managed to get my BlackBerry Bold 9000 updated to the new operating system… And as promised, I have made the first of the updates to my Aerith (Aeris) Gainsborough theme!

Here’s a list of what’s changed so far:
* Theme now includes a high-quality, custom ringing tone, “Aerith’s Theme” on piano in fact.
* Fading screen transitions have been added, for devices running BlackBerry OS 5.0 or newer.

As was stated above, I’m now running BlackBerry OS on my BlackBerry Bold 9000 and the theme seems to work fine… I did however, notice a few, small issues:
* Many of the icons are no longer in the correct position.
* I now have “generic” icons for “Music”, “Pictures” and “Videos”, in addition to these icons appearing correctly under the new “Media” folder.

I’m about to go away with work for a few days, so I can’t address these issues at the moment… I do however, hope to take a look as soon as I get back, and will hopefully have a big-fix made available next weekend.

Here’s an updated road-map for planned updates:
* Review the menu-based Web Links, replacing one or more for something more functional.
* Review the Aertith-themed icons and touch-up or replace as required.

Version 2.0 is still some way off, but the most noticeable change will be a revised Home Screen layout, likely offering a “next gen” layout (hopefully something pretty unique, too) and if possible, a choice of layouts (BlackBerry OS 5.0 and higher supports this for the default themes)… By the time I launch version 2.0 (which at this stage is likely to be the final version), I plan to have custom icons for everything.
